Series 8: Thirteen Colonies

Launched in August 2026, ending in February 2027, Three Ravens crossed the Atlantic to discuss the history and folklore of The Thirteen Colonies.

Proceeding chronologically to explore each modern U.S. state from its founding, we also split apart the story element of episodes for the first time to give each state's lore and traditions time to breathe. Some of them are enormous, and all packed with fascinating and distinct aspects of folk culture!

This meant that our Thursday stories could become more rounded, including deeper analysis of the tales we have chosen to retell so that we might draw connections from America outwards.

Local Legends also continued, with a range of authors, storytellers, folklorists and historians from a broad range of cultural backgrounds joining us to offer insider views of the sheer diversity and knotty complexity of each place.

With all new sounds, a new take on our theme song, and so much to cover, Series 8: The Thirteen Colonies is an incredibly rich listen, and one intended to build bridges during divisive times.
